Using Microsoft Word to Make a Game Point Board
Making therapy materials can be easy if you use your computer as a tool. Your Game Point Board can have questions, pictures, letters, numbers, or whatever you are working on during the term. It is also appropriate for any age and subject. Here are the steps:
Open a New word document. Go to Table, then Insert Table. Change the number of columns to 4 and the number of rows to 6, then click OK. |
For a thick border, go to Edit, and Select All, then Format and Borders and Shading. |
Under Borders, click "All" and under width, click 3 pt, then click OK. |
While the table is still highlighted, click on Center to center all the text (you can also find this under Format, Paragraph, and Alignment).
While the table is still highlighted, click on Table, Cell Height and Width. In the dialogue box, click on the tab Row, then change the Height from Auto to Exactly and in the box At: change the number to 50. Click OK. |
While the table is still highlighted, change the font to 20pt.
Put category labels in the top row.
Type in a number score in each box. |
Put your cursor at the bottom of the page and go to Edit, Select All, Edit, and Copy.
If you want your game on two separate pages, put your cursor at the bottom of the page and go to Insert, Break and click on Page Break, then OK. If you want your game on one page, skip this step. |

Your cursor will now be on the second page or at the bottom of your game board. Go to Edit, and click on Paste. The Game Board will be duplicated. On the second Game Board, highlight the number under the category and change the font to 12, then type in a question or comment that requires an answer. Replace all the numbers with a question that corresponds to the category. |

When the student answers the question or responds correctly to the directions, then they get the corresponding points. If they have difficulty with math, show them how to use a calculator or add the points for them.
